Crossing Paths With Sailor Dan
Sailor Dan is arguably the most recognisable man in Saskatoon, SK. He sells his ship drawings on the city's street corners and his artwork hangs in homes around the world. I spent 3 years photographing the artist when we crossed paths. My photos depict the complicated, one-of-a-kind man.
These portraits were taken at Anime North, where I sought out people wearing matching/coordinating costumes. Slipping into the skin of a specific icon may produce multiples, but it also reveals an underlying human desire to connect, among other little secrets.
Photographs were taken over a period of six weeks in 2016 in the remote First Nations community of Fort Albany in Northern Ontario. I focused intimate moments with the youth in the community. I wanted to portray the daily struggles and hopes of a vulnerable yet full of potential community.
